Still deciding where to go on your family staycation this summer? Capital or countryside? We’re here to help make that decision a little bit easier on you. Of course, we are going to be biased and suggest the Capital, but we do have some influential arguments to make to back us up. Keep reading on to find out why we think Dublin is the perfect location for staycations…

Shopping, bars, pubs, clubs are just a few of the things that come to mind when thinking of Dublin City. But really, the Capital is probably one of the most family-friendly counties in Ireland. You can design your days and your holiday agenda to be jam packed of fun and entertainment for the kids all within walking distance of the hustle and bustle of the city.

Let’s start off with sharing some family-friendly fun activities to do in Dublin City Centre; Viking Splash Tours is one of the first child-friendly activities that comes to mind – hop on board the “duke”, pop on your Viking hat and be guided around Viking Dublin. It is a unique and interactive experience that will guarantee to get all the family involved, even the parents!

Dublin Zoo, located in Phoenix Park, is a great day out for all the family and is one of Dublin’s most popular attractions. See the animals, play in the playground, take family photos, have a picnic, visit the giftshop, the list is endless. When you have seen everything there is to see, take a short walk through the Phoenix Park and see the residents of the park, the deer in their natural habitat.

The National Leprechaun Museum is another forgotten gem in Dublin that all the family can enjoy. If the little ones are obsessed with folklore, mythical creatures and legends, this place is for them. Step into the Otherworld, be captivated with stories, embrace your imagination and you will be brought on a magical adventure to a world of myths and legends – so cool! This museum is thrilling especially for families who enjoy learning about mythical Ireland.

Something as simple as a picnic or taking a walk with your family is so underrated and unappreciated these days. Picnics and walks are the cheapest and most enjoyable activities to do and luckily, Dublin has the greatest and greenest parks to have a picnic on or go for a quick stroll. St. Stephens Green, Merrion Square Park and the Iveagh Gardens are three stunning parks that you and your family can enjoy – entry is free, take advantage of it on a sunny day!

Trying to decide where to eat as a family can be a bit of a nightmare. If it’s something quick and casual you’re in the mood for – Nando’s, TGI Friday or Milano’s are a good shout! If you’re looking for a more classier family evening – The Market Bar and The Church are all great spots, with great food and are absolutely family-friendly places.

Now that we have possibly convinced you to come to Dublin for your family staycation, the next question is, where do you and your family stay? That’s where the Alex Hotel comes in. Family Time at the Alex is one of our most popular special offers, you’ll see why for yourself – overnight stay, breakfast included, two course dinner, cocktails for the parents and hot chocolate & cookies for the youngsters. Our rooms are fully equipped with smart TVs, the perfect opportunity to unwind together and watch movies after exploring Dublin City.

We think we have made a pretty good case as to why Dublin is a great location for a family staycation. Why don’t you and the family come and see for yourselves? We can guarantee that you and the clan won’t be disappointed.
