The Alex is located just under 15km from Dublin International Airport (DUB) and is easily accessible by taxi, car or bus.
Taxis are available outside the main doors of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at the airport 24/7. A trip from the airport to the Alex costs approximately €30, depending on traffic at the time. Our reception team can call you a taxi to the airport on your departure from the Alex.
Travelling from Dublin Airport by car takes approximately 45 minutes, again depending on the time of travel. There are a number of routes into the city centre to the Alex. We suggest you use Google Maps to show you the best route at your time of travel.

The Airport is also accessible via bus. The Airlink Bus Route 757 links the south side of Dublin City with the airport. There is a stop located beside our sister hotel the Davenport, a 1-minute walk from the hotel lobby. The bus journey from the city centre to the airport takes approximately 45 minutes. Single tickets cost €7 while return tickets can be purchased for €12.
A taxi will take about 15 minutes from Heuston Station to the hotel. It will take approximately 4 minutes from Connolly Station.
Pearse Station is located in very close proximity to The Alex, with a small 3 minute walk.
Car (up to 15 minutes): Dublin Ferry Terminal is located 3km from The Alex and would take approximately 12 minutes by car via the quays with a beautiful view onto the docklands.
The Alex Hotel is located right around the corner from Merrion Square and there are a number of bus routes in close proximity. Please enquire with reception for advice on which bus is most suitable for your journey. Watch out for the yellow bus signs on the street and download the Dublin Bus app to stay posted on live arrival and departure times.
There is a DART approximately every 15 mins at Pearse Station, accessing the coastal towns of North Dublin; Malahide, Howth, or South Dublin; Dun Laoghaire, Bray and Greystone.
The station number 26 Merrion Square West is located very close to the hotel with 20 bikes available for rent to explore the city.
The closest Luas stop to The Alex is the Dawson Street stop on the Green line. It is located 8 minutes’ walk from the hotel reaching destinations such as Ranelagh, Dundrum Town Centre and Sandyford Business Park. For more information on the LUAS timetable and stops please click this link.
If you’re planning on exploring outside of Dublin, why not hire a car to see more of what Ireland has to offer? There are plenty of car hire companies at Dublin Airport and you can always park nearby at The Alexandar Court, when you arrive at our hotel. We recommend checking out Carhire.ie, Europcar and Budget.ie to name but a few.
Alexander Court Car Park
The car park for The Alex, Alexander Court, is also located on Fenian Street and is a short few minutes’ walk to the hotel. There is an overnight rate of €15 for guests (which is in line with the check-in time of 4pm and check out time of 11am). The hourly fee is €3 per hour before and after those times. To access the car park, guest need an access code. Our reception team can provide this information during your check in.
